Office of Advancement (OA) Graphic Design Internship

Project Description: Intern with a “creative agency” inside the Smithsonian, helping leadership shape and disseminate the Institution’s fundraising messages by creating a wide range of award-winning fundraising materials. Help craft compelling messages in all media for the leadership of the Smithsonian’s advancement office and fundraisers the Smithsonian’s 19 museums, 9 research centers and the National Zoo.  You will engage in valuable, hands-on learning with a team that consists of the Communications Director, the Communications Manager, two writers and two graphic designers. Intern will also interact with the Online Fundraising team.

 

Intern Qualifications: The intern should have enthusiasm for graphic design and creating compelling communications materials in all media; experience in Adobe Creative Cloud  (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Bridge), web and video media; and follow current design trends and design directions.

Learning Objectives:  Learn to create a wide variety of print communications (using InDesign); infographics; website creative content (banners, emails, other graphic content). The intern will also learn to put together presentations (PowerPoint slides); video projects; photoediting and photo research (PhotoShop, Bridge). Intern will also learn to work with vendors on print specifications and proofs, and much more.

Weekly Commitment:  20-40 hours
