The James Renwick Fellowship in American Craft

The James Renwick Fellowship in American Craft is available for research in American studio crafts or decorative arts from the nineteenth century to the present. The terms of the fellowship as well as the application guidelines and deadlines are the same as for the Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program.

Eligibility: Pre- and postdoctoral scholars who wish to work with Renwick Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum advisors. Applications from senior scholars who do not hold a Ph.D. will be accepted provided applicants demonstrate an equivalent record of professional accomplishment at the time of application.

Application: Only one application is necessary for all Smithsonian American Art Museum fellowships; applicants listing a primary advisor/supervisor at the museum will automatically be considered in all relevant award categories. Applicants should use the online Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program application here.
