Fredrick Larabee: Fired Up about Ants
Peter Buck Postdoctoral Fellow Fredrick Larabee led research on the jaws of Myrmoteras ants during his time at the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). He found a feature of the ant’s mandible joint that allows its jaws to lock open as it strikes at about 50 miles an hour. Fredrick’s work was recently featured in Smithsonian Insider.
