Trailblazing with INROADS
INROADS College Links – DC is an academic program which aims to provide underrepresented students with a variety of professional, developmental, and career opportunities with the intent to prepare its members for college and beyond.
On Monday 6/26/17, INROADS students from Washington DC high schools spent a day with Office of Fellowships and Internships (OFI) Partnership Manager Eileen Graham and were able to catch a sneak peak at the inner workings of the Smithsonian Institution. The day started with the Smithsonian All Staff Meeting, where a distinguished panel including Secretary David Skorton discussed the topic of diversity in the workplace. Afterwards, the INROADS group went on a tour of the entomology department, where National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) Museum Specialist Gary Hevel provided several samples from a variety of collections for students to examine.
The day ended with a career panel, where Smithsonian employees with a range positions all provided accounts regarding their personal experience in finding a career.
Thanks for coming to see us INROADS students!
