Art with a Purpose
So many artists have the ability to weave hidden meanings into their artwork. Native American weaver Shan Goshorn is one of these artists. Goshorn was a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellow (SARF) at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) in 2013. Since her Fellowship, Goshorn has made great accomplishments and contributions to the field of American art utilizing her rich cultural background.
In recognition of her work as an artistic weaver, Goshorn was recently awarded a United States Artists Fellowship. Goshorn was chosen for her groundbreaking and original work that combines, “the intricacy of Cherokee basket weaving with pointed political, social and cultural commentary.”
