Ectoparasites of African Mammals

DESCRIPTION: This project focuses on the diversity of fleas, ticks, mites and lice found on small mammals in East Africa and implications for zoonotic disease transmission.

QUALIFICATIONS: Interest in collections management and curation of ectoparasites collected from Kenya and Tanzania.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The intern(s) will learn how to curate and sort insect specimens as well as work with museum specimens of mammals from Africa. In addition, the intern will learn about research data management and dissemination by assisting with data basing and uploading genetic sequences from these specimens to the Barcode of Life website.
