Intern Spotlight: Smithsonian Facilities Intern Emily Lama
Emily Lama is a summer 2016 intern in Smithsonian Facilities, Interiors Department. In this capacity, she reviews design plans and uses her training in interior design to assist with design solutions. One of Emily’s main internship projects is the reconfiguration of an East Tower Capital Gallery conference room. This involved field verification of the space, measurements, and a floor plan design that included the clients’ specs for eight cubicles. After these initial steps, Emily then created 3D drawings of the space and offered different finish options to the client. She is currently working on creating the specifications for the furniture and purchasing it so it can be installed in the space.
Emily graduated from West Virginia University in May 2016 with a B.S. in Interior Design. Originally from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, but now living in Alexandria, Virginia. Emily enjoys traveling and have been to various countries including Taiwan, Malta, Spain, and Scotland. Learning about different types of interior architecture and design is her passion and she hopes to continue to expand on this knowledge.
